About The Chef

Chef Sonya King has a true passion for the culinary world with a focus mainly in baking and pastry.  Her desire stems from her beloved grandmother’s having her (and all her grandchildren) in the kitchen at a young age learning to make an assortment of homemade goodies and meals.  From there, Sonya continued to learn more about cooking and baking in high school cooking classes.  In 1993 as a young mother of two children wanting to help make ends meet, Sonya baked and sold cakes, cookies, pies, yeast breads and rolls and later found her true calling in the confectionery arts world when she learned how to decorate cakes.  It was during this time that King Kreations was conceptualized as Sonya prepared her homemade goodies for those desiring them but who didn’t have the time to make them.

After learning to decorate cakes, Sonya’s teacher recommended she become a Wilton Method of Cake Decorating teacher.  She has been awarded a Century pin of recognition for having taught many students within her 12-year span as a Wilton-trained teacher.

Sonya has always been an entrepreneur at heart, which came from her grandmother, who also was entrepreneurial-minded.  Sonya’s entrepreneurial ventures encompass being a kitchen consultant, party consultant, event planner, and of course, cake decorating teacher.

Sonya’s desire now is to give more quality time to those with busy schedules but who would still like to eat a healthy meal.  Sonya does this by offering delicious, nutritious (and sometimes sinful) customized meals that bring people back to the table and further reducing the stress of the age old question “What’s for dinner?”  Those that would like the pleasure of cooking and baking like mama and grandma rather than order up a mean take-out for their families can learn how to through one of her various in-home culinary classes.

Sonya graduated summa cum laude with an Associates of Arts Degree in Baking and Pastry from The International Culinary Schools at the Art Institute of Atlanta (AIA) in spring 2010 and was the recipient of the Outstanding Academic Achievement Award and Outstanding Excellence Award.  She is a certified culinarian (CC) and certified pastry culinarian (CPC) through the American Culinary Federation (ACF).  During her studies at AIA, Sonya assisted world-renowned pastry chef Susan Notter, prepared meals for the USO, assisted in an elaborate buffet for an AIA Alumni dinner, assisted with a Teens Can Cook event, and food and wine tastings.
